Skilled Migration to Australia from the UK

Australia’s General Skilled Migration program provides points-tested visa pathways for eligible skilled workers. The subclass 189 and 190 visas are permanent visas, while the subclass 491 is a five-year provisional regional visa that can provide a pathway to permanent residence if the relevant requirements are later met.

Before submitting an Expression of Interest, you will generally need an occupation eligible for your intended visa, a suitable skills assessment, at least competent English and a minimum of 65 points. You must also satisfy the relevant age and other eligibility requirements when invited.

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation. Invitation prospects depend on factors including your nominated occupation, points score, visa subclass, current government priorities and the number of places available.

Visa Your Way can manage the complete skilled migration process, assist with one particular stage or review work you have prepared yourself.

The usual three-stage skilled migration process

Step 1 – Skills Assessment

Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation. The requirements vary by occupation and may consider your qualifications, employment experience or both. You may also need an English-language test, particularly if you intend to claim additional points for English.

Step 2 – Expression of Interest

Submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect containing your points claims and preferred visa pathways. An EOI is not a visa application, and submitting one does not guarantee an invitation. Additional state or territory nomination requirements may apply for the 190 and 491 visas.

Step 3 – Visa Application

If invited, you will generally have 60 days to lodge your visa application. Your EOI claims must be supported by appropriate evidence. Government application charges, health examinations and police clearances will also apply.

Choose your level of skilled migration support

Not every applicant needs full representation. Some people want their entire visa process managed, while others only need professional advice or a final check at a particular stage. Visa Your Way allows you to choose the level of support that suits your circumstances, confidence and budget. All migration advice is provided directly by a MARA-registered migration agent.
